Release of My Land and My People, Public Talk and Interactive Session on April 2nd, 2017

Guwahati , 21st March, 2017:  An Assamese version of the first autobiography by His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be released at the IIT, Guwahati on April 2nd.  Originally titled‘My Land and My People’ and already published in various other languages, MorDesharuMorManuh is the first Assamese version of any book written by the spiritual leader of Tibet.

Besides releasing the book, His Holiness will deliver a public talk and participate in an interactive session at the programme jointly organised by Lawyer’s Book Stall and IIT Guwahati.  The book is being published by Lawyer’s Book Stall, which is celebrating its 75th year of inception.  It may be noted that during the platinum jubilee year, Lawyer’s is planning to publish and reprint a series of unique and groundbreaking books that are of unmatched value to Assam and Assamese literature.

Some of His Holiness’ notable publications are: Beyond Religion-Ethics for a Whole World (2012), The Universe in a Single Atom (2005), Ethics for a New Millennium (1999), The Art of Happiness (1998), and Freedom in Exile (1991).  In 2016, His Holiness co-authored The Book of Joy with Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

LhamoDhondup, born on July 6th, 1935 to a farming family, was recognised as the 14th Dalai Lama at the tender age of two.  In those days, His Holiness the Dalai Lama was both temporal and spiritual head of Tibet.  In 1950, His Holiness assumed full political power after China’s invasion of Tibet in 1949-50.  Finally in 1959, after vain attempts to broker peace with the Chinese, His Holiness was forced to escape into exile.  Since then he has been living in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh.
